How to Apply

If you are looking for social housing through North Yorkshire Home Choice you will have to complete an  application form using the register or log in button at the top of this screen.

Before you proceed with your application please read our Privacy Notice. This will explain why we ask the questions we do and how we use your data.

You will need to provide names, addresses and dates of birth of any adults and children living in your current property and any who will be moving with you.  You will also need the National Insurance numbers for primary and joint applicants .  You will also need to provide an address history for the last 5 years.  It would be best to have this information ready before you start your online application. See the how to apply online guide which lists each stage of information required before you start (click here).

Once you have completed your application form, we will need to complete some checks to confirm you are both eligible and qualify for the NYHC register. For information on eligibility and qualification please click here

In order to prove that you are eligible to apply for social housing you will be asked to provide proof of your current address, national insurance number (for everyone over 18 in the household), proof of child benefit for any dependent children, and ID for any adults (preferably a passport or photo driving licence or birth certificate).  Additional items, such as references may be required and you will be advised what additional information you will need to provide.

Once your application has been accepted on to the housing register we will write to tell you:

  • Your housing application  unique reference number and memorable date.
  • The priority band your application has been placed in.
  • The number of bedrooms and type of property you are entitled to bid on

You must keep your application up to date and advise us of any change in your circumstances so that your application can be re-assessed.
Any offer of a property may be withdrawn if it is evidenced that a change of circumstance has not been disclosed.

Verification will be completed at the time of application, at the point of any offer of accommodation or during any period of assessment to ensure you remain eligible and qualify for the NYHC Housing Register
