How to Apply

If you are looking for social housing through North Yorkshire Home Choice you will need to complete an application form, using this webiste. 

If you are supporting someone who does not have internet access we do offer a paper application. Paper applications can be downloaded from the website or available from any NYHC Partner.

We request that you read our priviacy notice before completing an application  Our privacy notice explains why we ask for information and how we use and store your data.

You will need to provide names, addresses and dates of birth of any adults and children living in your current property and any who will be moving with you.  You will also need the National Insurance numbers for primary and joint applicants .  You will also need to provide an address history for the last 5 years.  It would be best to have this information ready before you start your online application.  

Once you have completed and submitted your application form, we will need to complete some checks to confirm you are both eligible for social housing and qualify for the NYHC register. In order to prove that you are eligible to apply for social housing you will be asked to provide proof of your current address, national insurance number (for everyone over 18 in the household), proof of child benefit for any dependent children, and ID for any adults (preferably a passport or photo driving licence or birth certificate).  Additional items, such as references may be required and you will be advised what additional information you will need to provide.

Once eligibility qualification and identification checks have been completed your application and housing needs will be assessed

When all checks and assessments have been completed and your application has been accepted we will contact you and provide you with the follwoing details;

  • Your housing application  unique reference number and memorable date.
  • The priority housing band your application has been placed in.
  • The number of bedrooms and type of property you are entitled to bid on

You are responsible for keeping your application up to date and must advise us of any change in your circumstances relevant to your housing application 
Any property offer may be withdrawn if it is evidenced that a change of circumstance has not been disclosed.

Verification will be completed at the time of application, at the point of any offer of accommodation or during any period of assessment to ensure you remain eligible and qualify for the NYHC Housing Register.
Where an applicant is identified as no longer being eligible for social housing and/or no longer qualifying for the NYHC  housing register they will have their application closed. Applicants have a right of review.
